How It All Began

Although Gourmet Firehouse Salsa did not officially begin production until 2017, my inspiration for fruit-based salsas began many years ago during my time as a firefighter and paramedic. Back then, we often had platoon dinners — gathering in the kitchen each morning to determine what to make for dinner that night. No matter what meal we decided to make, there always seemed to be a bottle of hot sauce or salsa on the table during dinner.

One day, Capt. Berry came into the firehouse with a basket of fresh habanero peppers from his home garden. It was in that moment that I asked him if I could use them.

Mastering My Craft 

As I continued crafting my salsa, fellow firefighters offered their suggestions for improvements to the recipe. After many attempts and habanero peppers later, my Mango Habanero Salsa was born. Over the years, it grew in popularity — with friends and family requesting jars of it. After I retired, I decided it was time to try and market my fruit-based salsas.

Gourmet Firehouse Salsa Is Born 

In late 2017, I produced my first batch of salsa at the Cleveland Culinary Launch Kitchen. My fruit-based salsas are made with local ingredients — with no additives, fillers, or preservatives.
